The Famous and the Dead – 2009 - Director Esmir Filho
‘The Famous and the Dead' is the feature debut film of young Brazilian director Esmir Filho. In a small, rural, German town in the countryside in the south of Brazil, a teenager uses the codename Mr. Tambourine Man to blog on the internet, his only access to the rest of the world. Following the deaths of his father and best friend, he monotonously watches his days go by at school, smoking pot with his best friend Diego and with his dysfunctional mother. There is mystery surrounding the plot which unfolds when it is discovered that those who see Mr. Tambourine through the computer screen are no stranger to this town. A film for this generation, where the internet has become an existential medium to connect to the rest of the world.
