The 8th Discovering Latin America Film Festival (DLAFF), which will take place in London from 26th November to 6th December 2009, aims to promote Latin American cinema in all its forms: as art, as entertainment and as an industry. Every year, the Festival programme includes a variety of retrospectives and homages to major Latin American film professionals; the Festival is committed to documenting the history of Latin American cinema. Master Classes and round table discussions are also important parts of the festival’s structure.
The DLAFF is the only film festival of its kind in London, because has two key objectives. First, it raises funds for social development in Latin America, and second, it shows the UK the richness of Latin American culture.
We are now open for submission, we welcome submissions of Latin American feature films, documentary films and short films; the films should be available with English subtitles and preferably available in 35mm format, but we will also consider DigiBeta and DVD for documentary and short films. We are also keen to hear from Latin American filmmakers working / living in the UK who have made films about Latin America.
The Festival is open to any film produced after 1st January 2007
Films must comply with at least one of the following:
1. Films need to be directed or co-directed by Latin American filmmakers
2. Films should touch upon some aspect of Latin American culture
Production and distribution companies can submit more than one film so long as the films are made by different directors. If the Festival decides to show a retrospective of a particular director, the Festival will contact the relevant production / distribution company(s).
