Festival Charity

Each year, DLA supports a different organisation that works towards significant positive changes for Latin America. DLA researches these charities through our Grant Giving programme.  This year the Film Festival will support SALCET, Salvadorian Children Earthquake Trust.

SALCET is a UK registered charity seeking the relief of poverty, sickness, distress and the preservation of good health of children who are suffering as a result of earthquakes and other natural disasters in El Salvador. The organisation provides teaching and training on health related subjects, safe building provision, sanitation, medical clinics, etc.

The project: aims to improve health and hygiene by providing better drainage and sewage system for the village of San Carlos, (a community in the lowest economic group), constructing pipes to carry water and a septic tank. The local community has been found to have a high level of parasites, and improved sanitation will assist the eradication of this problem.

Sixty families and therefore a full spectrum of age groups from babies to the elderly will directly benefit from this project. All the community will benefit but particularly the children who are the most vulnerable to dehydration from gastro-enteritis and other intestinal conditions.
