Action Aid

Country background:

Guatemala is located in Central America, bordering on Mexico, Belize, the Caribbean, Honduras and El Salvador. According to the 2004 Human Development Report of PNUD, Guatemala is the country with highest index of human poverty in Central America. Illiteracy, infant mortality, malnutrition and violence are among the main problems this country has.

Organization:

Action Aid Guatemala is part of Action Aid International, an organisation investing resources mainly in fighting poverty and injustice, by building long term confidence relations, mutual respect and commitment with recognized and legitimate poor and excluded people’s social movements, national and community based organizations, generating legitimacy and authority to develop joint local, national and international advocacy work.

Project Overview:

The money raised for this cause was used in the housing improvement of over 10 families and an extra room for the school in Xinca and Pipil.

Event where money was raised:

DLA Legacies of Latin America, we raised £4,800 and welcomed 450 visitors.
