Rhythms Charity
Each year, DLA supports a different organisation that works towards significant positive changes for Latin America. DLA researches these charities through our Grant Giving programme. This year Rhythms will support War on Want in Honduras.
War on Want is a UK-based international NGO that works against the policies and structures that cause poverty. The organisation's vision is a world free from poverty and oppression, based on social justice, equality and human rights for all. This charity has been working in partnership with grassroots social movements, trade unions and workers' organisations to empower people to fight for their rights.
The project: A better life for female sweatshop workers, it aims to improve living conditions and livelihoods of female garment workers by educating, building their capacities and empowering these workers to exercise their rights, enabling them to defend their rights, face policy makers, employers and multinational retailers.
The project wants to review occupational and health labour legislation, provide legal and medical advice in case of work accidents and train women workers in labour rights workshops. It will directly benefit 6000 women workers and on a secondary basis 130.000 people.
